"A Tango Affair" with Jorge Nel and Milena

 Friday, Jul 31      Harding Family Center, Coeur d’Alene (directions on next page)

              6:00 – 7:15 pm       Tango Fundamentals.  This all-levels class will cover the crucial                                      basics so important to progress in tango.

            7:30 – 8:45      Milonga Revisited.  An all-level class focusing on the embrace, milonga       figures, and exercises that will enhance your milonga enjoyment.

            8:45 – 10:00   Practica.

       

Saturday, Aug 1          Harding Family Center (Please be prompt for classes)

         10:00 - 11:15 am    The Timeless Ocho Cortado.  Most of us know the Ocho Cortado, but do we know at least 10 variations that are sure to impress her?  While it is a popular move in Buenos Aires salons, these variations are sure to reveal your mastery and her grace. (All Levels)

             11:15 - 12:45          Lunch.  (Please be on time for the afternoon classes)              .

              12:45 – 2:00           Tango Vals.  Tango Vals (waltz) has a unique rhythm and cadence.  Many ladies enjoy the undulating, almost hypnotic strains.  All levels will be able to enhance her enjoyment with these recondite moves and tips.

               2:15 – 3:45            Tango on a Crowed Floor.  Let Jorge take you on safari, a tango safari.  He will be your guide and arm you with the secrets of managing to have fun even amongst a steamy, maddening crowd.

8.00 -- 8:45 pm       Absolute Beginner Class with Local Instructors

Introduce family and friends to tango!  Walking to the beat, rocking, changing direction.  Even if you think you have two left feet, you’ll have fun and feel that it isn’t that hard after all.   

8:45 – 12:00              Milonga (a social dance) with a Performance by Jorge and Milena.  Dressy Attire.  

 

Sunday, Aug 2            Harding Family Center (Please be prompt for classes)

            10:00 – 11:15 am    Interpreting the Music of Different Orchestras.  Each of the classic orchestras/composers has unique music and rhythms.  This all-level class will explain the differences between the orchestras/music (Di Sarly, D’Arienzo, Pugliese, Calo, and Piazzola) and offer insights on how the music may be interpreted with movement on the salon dance floor.     

            11:15 – 12:45      Lunch.  Bring a brown-bag lunch and join Jorge and Milena for an open discussion about life in the fast lane of the tango world.  This is the time to ask Jorge and Milena questions you’ve always wanted to ask about tango.

            12:45 – 1:30            Milonga Continued!  We’ve all heard of milonga traspie, but have you experienced milonga canyengue or milonga lisa?  This intermediate/Advanced class will explore these exciting rhythms, tempos, and, movements.  You will never be bored dancing milonga again say our milonga experts, Jorge and Milena!

             2:15 - 3:45                 Performance Tango.  This intermediate/advanced class will highlight techniques for performing for small or large groups.  Subjects included are choreographing a routine, deciding on a message to convey to the audience, selecting appropriate music, and makeup and costumes.

About Jorge Nel Giraldo
Jorge Nel’s love and dedication to dancing and teaching tango span more than 30 years.  His early accomplishments include founding the Dorada School of Folkloric Dance and serving as Professor of Theatre Arts in the National Air Force of Colombia.

In the mid 1980s, he won the first National Tango Championship in the Columbian festival, "La Feria de Manizales", and soon after came to the United States where he directed a, "Martin Fierro", show for three years.

In the 1990s, he founded "El Club Amigos del Tango,” now almost 2,000 members strong.  He also started Florida's first, "Tango Dance Academy", and was the organizer of, "El Festival Mayor Del Tango".  Mayor Alex Penelas of Dade County honored him with an award, proclaiming May 15 as "Jorge Nel Giraldo Day."  Additionally, The National Tango Academy of Argentina in the United States nominated him for membership.  Jorge appeared as a tango dancer in a scene from the motion picture, “Random Hearts”, starring Harrison Ford and Kirsten Scott Thomas.

In the summer of 2008, Jorge and his partner won a Tango Championship in Columbia.  Further, he is considered the pioneer of Argentine Tango in South Florida and has performed and taught in many cities and festivals in the U.S  He and Milena are considered to be authorities on dancing and teaching the milonga.
